[edit]DescriptionPlant Growth Mechanism (3788538251).jpg |
Plant growth hormones, known as auxins, influence a variety of plant processes and are produced in growth regions throughout the plant. Researchers have worked out the series of molecular events the hormone uses to make plants grow. When a plant is not growing, auxin is not produced, and growth genes are repressed, or turned off. When conditions are favorable for growth, auxin is produced and binds to a molecule known as TIR1. The auxin-TIR1 complex in turn signals for the destruction of the repressor protein that keeps growth in check, and growth promoting genes are turned on.
