English: WALLS. FIRST WALLED ENCLOSURE
XII-XII century Zamora, a city known by the Romancero as "the well fenced", had throughout the Middle Ages a constant expansion of its enclosure wall. The first walled enclosure, the oldest, possibly corresponds to the birth of the Christian city and is attributed to King Alfonso III the Great who, in the year 893 conquers and fortifies the city. Decades later, Arab chronicles collect references to the walls of Zamora and its good factory attributed to toledanos alarifes and based on the sandstone of the country carved as ashlars or as simple masonry.Español: MURALLAS. Siglo XII-XII Zamora, ciudad conocida por el Romancero como “la bien cercada”, tuvo a lo largo de la Edad Media una constante ampliación de su recinto murado. El primer recinto amurallado, el más antiguo, se corresponde posiblemente con el nacimiento de la ciudad cristiana y se atribuye al rey Alfonso III el Magno quien, en el año 893 conquista y fortifica la ciudad. Décadas después, las crónicas árabes recogen referencias a las murallas de Zamora y su buena fábrica atribuida a alarifes toledanos y basada en la piedra arenisca del país labrada como sillares o como simple mampostería. |
