English: Belgrade Turner was founded in 1901 by Prometna banka, on the initiative of engineer and entrepreneur Miloš Savčić. His idea was for Serbia to depend as little as possible on foreign countries, because before the construction of the turner, all construction timber was imported from Austro-Hungary. He thought that a lathe should be built, which would lower the price of this material on the domestic market, and Prometna banka should finance this project. This proposal met with a lot of disapproval, but at the end of 1901, the bank gave permission on the condition that Savčić personally compensate for any possible financial loss. However, Strugara was a complete success and did a great job throughout its existence. |
