Text Appearing Before Image:
r husband, begginghim to let her remain on the Titanic with him. Whenhe insisted that she save herself, she threw her armsaround him and begged him with tears to permit her toshare his fate. Col. Astor picked her up bodily and carried her toa boat, which was the one just ahead of ours, and placedher in it. I lingered with my brother and his wife, loath toleave them, although we all knew the ship was sinkingand that the ocean would soon swallow up all thatremained of the steamer. We both begged my brotherto come with us, but he said: No, I will remain with theothers, no matter what happens. Then, when it was time to go, when the last boat wasbeing lowered to the water line, we were hurried into itby my brother, who bade us good-bye and said calmlybut with feeling: Be brave; no matter what happens,be brave. Then he waved his hand and our boat shotout just in time to escape being borne down by thesuction of the Titanicj as it went down. As the ship settled there was a terrific explosion.
