Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Tinea versicolor on chest.

This black and white photograph shows a patient with almost confluent patches of tinea (Pityriasis) versicolor (caused by the yeast Malassezia furfur) on the skin of the neck, chest, and upper abdomen.

Usually this yeast grows sparsely without causing a rash. In some individuals, however it grows more actively for reasons unknown. This results in pale brown flaky patches on the trunk, neck, or arms. It looks as dark patch on light skin, but as lighter patches on dark skinned people.
