English: Pitchers Knowle on Hampton Ridge, New Forest This is a view looking northeast from the path that leads up to Hampton Ridge from the northwest corner of the Alderhill Inclosure. Pitchers Knowle is a spur projecting from Hampton Ridge, and can be seen on the left of the picture. The ridge is gravel-capped clay and the vegetation zones on the hillslope can clearly be seen. Few trees grow in this wet heathland environment. |
