Summary
[edit]DescriptionPit Head - geograph.org.uk - 373960.jpg |
English: Pit Head This is the pit head for one of the mine shafts at Morton Colliery.
This particular shaft remained in use after the closure of the mine because it was used to pump water out of the workings and into 373843s at the top of a 373664. This was necessary to prevent other working pits in the area from flooding. With the closure of the mines that benefited from this scheme the facility was closed down and now appears abandoned. For a more north-easterly (ahead) photograph but looking back, toward this site, click here 373879. To the right of the photograph, beyond the railings, there is a collection of 373993 that were part of the pumping scheme infrastructure. |
