L'unica delle sette m eraviglie del mondo ancora esistente, secondo erodoto fu costruita da 200.000 artigiani per 20 anni e furono impiegati circa 2.200.000 blocchi di pietra calcarea,ognuno del peso di 2 tonnellate e mezza. La piramide raggiungeva i 223 metri in ogni lato (ora 220) e i 147 metri di altezza (ora 137). Lungo il lato nord ci sono due ingressi, al suo interno tre camere situate a differenti livelli. Intorno alla piramide si trovano sepolte cinque barche . Nel 1954 furono trovati i pezzi di una grande barca di legno che una volta montata raggiungeva i 43 metri di lunghezza. Il legno utilizzato fu il legno di cedro del Libano. La barca e' in buono stato di conservazione. |
