Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Pine Hill Hose #5 Fire Company, 2427 Genesee Street at Normandy Avenue, Cheektowaga, New York, January 2021. A simplified example of the Colonial Revival dating to relatively late in that style's period of prominence in American architecture, the requisite Classical detailing is subtle and comes into play mostly in the framing of the front entrance, topped consecutively by a stone entablature in which the company's name is engraved and a pair of ornamental ancone reliefs. The hipped roof is low-pitched, and decorative masonry work in rectangular forms serve as quoins framing the façade and also extend vertically as a stylized pilaster strip between the garage doors. The Pine Hill Hose Company was founded in 1927, and the building seen here, constructed at a cost of $50,000, was dedicated on June 17 of the following year. A write-up in the Buffalo Evening News about the dedication noted that the new fire hall "contains a modern pumper and other equipment of the latest type" as well as a social hall on the second floor.
