Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Pilning railway station, Gloucestershire
Opened in 1886 by the Great Western Railway on the line from Bristol to South Wales through the Severn Tunnel, this station replaced a previous one just out of view to the right which was at a lower level and took the original line to New Passage Pier, where passengers boarded a ferry across the River Severn. From 1928 to 1968, this was called "Pilning High Level" to differentiate it from the original ST5684 : Pilning Low Level railway station (site), Gloucestershire, which had reopened. View north west towards the Severn Tunnel and Wales. At the time this image was taken, only 2 trains per week stopped here, both on a Saturday, both southbound. The footbridge to the left-hand, former northbound platform was removed in 2017, and the line electrified in 2019. For an earlier view in the opposite direction, see ST5684 : Pilning railway station, Gloucestershire, 2013.
