Summary
[edit]DescriptionPillbox above Bigsweir bridge - geograph.org.uk - 737696.jpg |
English: Pillbox above Bigsweir bridge This non-standard reinforced concrete pillbox overlooking Bigsweir bridge has emerged from the hedgerow during the winter. It is one of five WW2 pillboxes surviving in the area (one at each end of the bridge and this one with two others in a line higher up on the east bank of the river). The alignment of the entrance and the embrasures indicates that in 1940-41 it was expected that the attacker would approach from the south using the Wye valley road and obviously hoping to cross the river at Bigsweir bridge. |
