Summary
[edit]DescriptionPiles Copse and the River Erme - geograph.org.uk - 1357385.jpg |
English: Piles Copse and the River Erme. Looking across the river as it flows through the scene shown in 1357266. Piles Copse is "A small site which is one of the few surviving examples of the ancient high-level woodlands of Dartmoor. It stands on a steep west-facing slope within the valley of the River Erme. The stunted and gnarled Pedunculate Oaks are very slow-growing and the woodland is grazed so the ground flora is virtually absent. The trunks and branches of the trees support lichens and mosses, some of which are rare." http://www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk/la-wowpilescopse |
