Summary
[edit]DescriptionPile Gallo Romaine d'Ordan Larroque.jpg |
English: Ordan-Larroque Gallo-Roman pile. In the department of Gers, one finds at the edge or in the middle of the fields, stone constructions all in height, with a large niche at a certain level. These piles, "tourraque" in Occitan, were built between the 1st and the 4th century AD. Historians seem to agree that these are funerary monuments in honor of local figures. The niche must have contained a statue. The Ordan-Larroque pile is located north of the village, on the "Chemin de César", above the place called Mengot. It is quite run down. The large upper niche has disappeared, the small niche that we see is from the 19th century.
However, it is listed as an historic monument as an architectural heritage. |
