Description |
English: Presumed portrait of Madame de Montespan (1640-1707) dressed as the hunting goddess Diana "This extraordinary portrait most likely depicts the beautiful Françoise Athénaïs de Rochechouart de Montespan (1641-1707), called Madame de Montepan, maîtresse-en-titre, to King Louis XIV. She was well-known for her beauty and was in her time called the true Queen. She was also known for his witty conversation skills, was well-read and knowledgeable in politics. Here she is depicted as Diana, goddess of the hunt." [1] |
