English: After Antoine-Louis Barye (French, 1795-1875), Mêne was one of the most widely known animal sculptors both in France and in Great Britain. Unlike many of his rivals, he cast most of his bronzes himself. His range of subjects included hunting and racing scenes, animal combats, and exotic and domestic animals.
