Title
piercer (dorsal)
Description
English: Chert piercer, triangular in section, and tear-shaped in plan and profile, with an abraded area of cortex covering the proximal end of the dorsal face and almost half of the implement. The exposed surface of the chert has been battered and fractured over time but it has been flaked and worked into a point, with a dull, squared off end, which may have been used for piercing through wood and leather.

The point is worked from a chert beach cobble and is an orange-brown colour and has been derived from upper greensand chert, probably from Devon (Dr Roger Taylor pers comm).

Bond (2004) illustrates as similar example of a large piercer on page 144, Fig.5.130, No.F161, which is dated to the later Neolithic.
