From this pointfive vales or glens are visible, as well as Croghan-Kinsella, which contained theWicklow gold mines worked in the last century, and commemorated in a dra-matic piece by John OKeeffe. The vale of the Avoca widens gradually in its approach to Arklow : betweenthe mines and the latter, on the east of the river the continuous woods of Bally-arthur and Shelton rival in beauty the range of woods terminating in Glenarton the opposite side.
