IS BIOGRAPHICAL AXD COMMERCIAL. 75 development ushered in. The genial bishop and his esteemedwife are typical of Cardstons most substantial people. REV. GAVIN HAMILTON. The pastor of the Cardston Presbyterian Church, Rev. GavinHamilton, whose portrait appears herewith, was born in NewBrunswick and educated at Dalhousie College and TheologicalHall, Halifax, He had charges at Brookfield, Nova Scotia, andDalhousie, New Brunswick, but resigned his last charge onaccount of throat troubles and came West for the benefit of hishealth. He located at Macleod, September 5, 1891, and tookcharge of the Presbyterian church at that place. His prede-cessor had a congregation of only five people. The prospectsseemed rather grim. The first six months of his pastorate only$50 revenue was derived from the church, and Mr. Hamilton wasalso permitted to sweep out the church himself for a whole year.But perseverance finally overcame, and the next year therevenue was increased to S64t), while the year followi
