Transcript InfoField | The Town Bridge is an ancient structure with mouldering stone balustrades, which spans the River Kennet. Newbury is a town of considerable antiquity, it being known in the Domesday Book as Uluritone. In the vicinity were fought two well-known battles of the Civil War, on on Enborne Common (Sept. 20th, 1643) and one near Donnington (Oct. 27th, 1644). In the middle ages Newbury was one of the leading centres of the cloth trade. |
