Family car was a Rambler station wagon. The trailer was (I think) an Apache. It was a popup tent trailer with fold out beds on two sides and a foldup canvas tent. I usually slept in the back of the station wagon. It was a 1964 Rambler. Featured a "transistor" car radio which didn't have to warm up as earlier vacuum tube models did. In 1970, our parents got a converted Ford Econoline Van. It had a collapsible pop top that could be pushed up for more headroom while camping. The retractable top was battened down flush with the van roof for highway travel. From 1970 to my college years, they had 2 cars. They kept the Rambler and the Ford van. After selling both cars, my dad's last car was a Subaru. |
