ndance. Theaverage production is one-half bale of cotton, 25 bushels ofcorn, or one ton of hay per acre. 1 hese lands can be hadat $2 to $4 per acre. Where the grey connects with theTeavvblack lands there is a strip of black sandy soil one mile widewhich many prefer to the black waxy land, because easiest cul-ti\ ated and nearly equal in fertility. From the sandy prairiesouth to the North Sulphur Fork timber, embracing about one-third of the county, are the heavy black land prairies, which with-stand drouth remarkably and produce an average of three-fourthsof a bale of cotton or 40 bushels of corn per acre. The soil isinexhaustible, Irom 3 to 12 feet deep, and rests on soft limestone,the surface sufficiently undulating for good drainage. It isnearly all enclosed and a large portion under cultivation, butgood tracts may be purchased at $8 to $10 for unimproved and$15 to $30 per acre for improved farms. From the prairie south-ward to the Sulphur bottom are the black sanely timber lands.

Any of these lands may be purchased at $3 to $10per acre, and produce abundantly cotton, corn and all kinds offruits, especially peaches, plums, grapes and berries. The Sul-phur bottom lands, from one to two miles wide, are equal infertility to any land in the world, but subject to overflow and butlittle cultivated. However, there are large tracts there not subject to overflow, requiring only capital and industry to convertthem into the finest corn and cotton fields in the state. Price $ ito $3 per acre. HAY AND PASTURES. Calimus grass is indigenous to the soil. Originally the bladesaveraged four feet in height and the seed-stems from six to eightand covered the entire prairie region; now it grows chiefly onthe bottom lands of the North Sulphur Fork, and on the prairielands
