Description
English: Located about 13 Km far from Elba Island, Pianosa Island is part of the Tuscan Archipelago. The medieval necropolis (XI-XII sec) was discoveredin 2006, it waslocated close to the cliff and it was in danger of beingdestroyed by the advance of marine erosion. For this reason,some excavation fields were carried outtorecover the burials, under the supervision of theSoprintendenzaArcheologiadella Toscana in collaboration withthe Research Unit in Prehistory and Anthropology, Department of Physical Sciences, Earth and Environment, University of Siena (Italy).
