Summary
[edit]DescriptionPhylogenetic bracketing temnospondyls.jpg |
English: A diagram showing phylogenetic bracketing applied to reconstructions of temnospondyl amphibians. Paracyclotosaurus davidi and Mastodonsaurus giganteus are known from nearly complete skeletons, but Stenotosaurus stantonensis is known only from skulls. With phylogenetic bracketing, it can be inferred that Stenotosaurus had similar body proportions to Paracyclotosaurus and Mastodonsaurus because it is a descendant of their last common ancestor. Line drawings show similar proportions but are not to scale. Silhouettes show relative sizes. The relationships here are based on the analyses of Damiani (2001)[1] and Liu and Wang (2005)[2]. Proportions of Mastodonsaurus giganteus are based on Figure 54 of Schoch (1999)[3] and proportions of Paracyclotosaurus davidi are based on Figure 14 of Watson (1958)[4]. The head of Stenotosaurus stantonensis is based on Figure 25 of Damiani (2001)[5]. |
