Description
English: This photo shows three of the five children born to William Victor Duke (1886-1954) and his wife Mildred Jessie, nee Pemberton (1889-1971). From left to right: Phyllis Marjorie Duke, 1921-70, (married name Loxdale), Hugh Victor Duke, 1918-44, later a Major in the Devonshire Regiment of the British Army, killed by a sniper at Le Hamel (Gold Beach), Normandy France on D-Day, 6 June, 1944, and Vivian Moira Duke 1917-82 (married name Lush). It was probably taken in c. 1923 at Cuttack, Bihar & Oriisa Province, where William V. Duke was a Government School Inspector.
