m) is limitedto a single specimen collected by Capt. Carmichael, and nowrpreserved in the Dublin University Herbarium. From-thisspecimen the figure has been taken. It will be seen that whilethe external habit is peculiar, the microscopic characters are verysimilar to those of E. clathrata, E. erecta, and E. ramulosa.Dr. Greville lays stress on the rigidity of substance, which isvery observable in the dry state at least. The branches are of larger diameter than is common in E. clathrata, but this is acharacter of little moment in this genus, and the very palecolour may arise from the peculiar circumstance under which theplant grew :—as, if the specimens were collected in a shallowpool near high-water mark they would assuredly be pale.
