English: Photographs displayed in the ground floor of Sukna Rail Station Museum. This was earlier a first class waiting room. The Photograph displayed here is located on the western side of the museum numbered left to right.
This Photograph shown here is described as :- The opening of the new metre-gauge station of Siliguri North and the closure of the Teesta Valley extension in June 1950 relieved the DHR from the obligation of running passenger trains alongside the Hill Cart road to Siliguri town. The DHR track was diverted to run into the new terminus and the station was renamed Siliguri Junction. 'B' class No 33 (later ISR 788) prepares to leave with a well-loaded UP Mail. The two-foot-gauge track in the foreground was changed to serve the metre gauge when the DHR was extended to New Jalpaiguri and ultimately lifted when the station became a junction with the broad bridge. |
