Strips of gold were enclosed in long copper cannisters, sealed, and then placed in the furnace. A sink for washing the strips is opposite the furnaces. An article that appeared in "Overland Monthly" (volume XXXVI, #216, December 1900) features this photograph on page 571. (English)
