Description

This photograph was taken south of Excello, and shows the Miami and Erie Canal, and the railroad tracks that paralleled the canal from Hamilton to Excello, where they turned towards the northeast. Excello is an unincorporated community in central Lemon Township in Butler County, on the south side of Middletown. The Louisville, Cincinnati & Dayton Railroad never reached any of the cities in its name. Its tracks only ran between Middletown and Hamilton, with a connection to the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railroad in Hamilton. Today, it is part the CSX railroad system, and is important to AK Steel.
