[edit]DescriptionPhiladelphia Naval Shipyard docks in 1921.jpg | View northwest from 350-ton crane of the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, League Island, Pennsylvania (USA). Drydock no. 2 at right, below center of the photograph. This timber structure was 142 m long, completed by yard labour in early 1915. The slip had dive McMyler Interstate Company rotating hammerhead cranes. It was the site where the USS Henderson (AP-1), first ship built by the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, came down the ways on 17 June 1916. Between drydock no. 2 and slip no. 1 are small shipways, 64 m long, used for construction of sea-going minesweepers. The slip ways at the upper left of the photograph were nos. 2 and 3. They were of timber construction and were built in 1918, no. 2 was 260 m long and no. 3 213 m long. |
