English: This 1835 muster enumerated the names and occupations of the Philadelphia Naval Hospital staff as of 2 July 1835. The three women listed are: Elizabeth Brown, washer, Elizabeth Dunkel, washer and Margaret McGarvey, cook. They are some of the earliest women employed by the Philadelphia Naval Hospital or Navy Yard. The two washers were the hospital laundresses who cleaned all the patient clothes and bedding. The cook was employed to prepare and cook meals for patients and staff
