DescriptionPhidippus johnsoni A.jpg |
Berkeley Rose Garden. This Red-Backed Jumping Spider (Phidippus johnsoni)) was getting ready to jump as I snapped one quick macro. It's tough to get precise focus with the small sweet spot of the Raynox macro lens, so I'm always hoping the bugs will accommodate me for just a few extra seconds. Right after this shot, he jumped to a faraway rose bush. (Jumping spiders will only bite if threatened. And their bite is not fatal. Subjecting him to a macro lens could be construed as threatening. But he let me go.) Last year, I photographed another Red-Backed Jumping Spider I set outside after I found her on our ceiling. At the time, I didn't know what kind of spider she was, otherwise I probably would have left her alone. Now I always appreciate the familiarity when I do see them. Shot with my Panasonic FZ50 and Raynox DCR-250 macro lens, handheld. |
