[edit]DescriptionPeutingerGlanum.PNG |
English: A part of the en:Peutinger Table, showing Southern en:France and the location of the Roman en:city of en:Glanum in red. Scan of a en:photocopy, processed and re-coloured by en:User:Cwoyte (Colours are nowhere near authentic, and have only been added for clarity's sake). Apart from Glanum, the following cities are shown: Avennione (Avennio: en:Avignon), Arelato (Arelatum: en:Arles), Foſſis Marianis (Fossae Marianae: en:Fos-sur-Mer), and Maſilia Gr[a]ecorum (Massilia: en:Marseille). The two en:rivers shown are River Rhône (flowing North to South, the blue legend ostia fl[uvii] R[h]odani meaning "mouths of the River Rhône") and en:Durance (East-West). The names of all locations are given in the en:ablative case because they denote the distance from a given city; a kink in the road line indicates the actual location. |
