| Description |
English: Peterborough Station, general view from Crescent Bridge 1992. View northward, towards Grantham and the North on the ECML, also Spalding and Lincoln by the remnant of the ex-GNR Boston Loop line to Grimsby, with the surviving ex-Midland line to Leicester etc. turning off beyond Helpston. Until the closure of Peterborough East Station in 6/66, this station was 'Peterborough North'. Between 1973 and 1980 it was radically rebuilt and enlarged, with a new island platform (Nos. 4/5) on the west side and new Fast lines in the centre, allowing trains to run through at 100 mph instead of the previous 20 mph. Electrification of the ECML was extended here from Hitchin in 1987, onward in 1989. In 2013 the station has been further modified and enlarged, with another island platform on the far west side. |
