English: King's Cross - Newcastle express leaving Peterborough North. View SE from Spital Bridge, towards Peterborough North and London on the ECML, also March etc. via Peterborough East. The 11.40 King's Cross to Newcastle is headed by Gresley A4 4-6-2 No. 60017 'Silver Fox', built 12/35 (one of the first four built (as No. 2512) for the pioneering SILVER JUBILEE high-speed train, fitted with double-chimney 5/57 and withdrawn 10/63. It is strange that the engine is carrying Class C headlamps, but it had earlier worked the 10.25 slow from King's Cross, so when it took over the 11.40 at Peterborough the fireman seems to have changed the lamps wrongly - i.e. from Class 'B' to 'C' instead of to 'A'. |
