- 1772, januar (?): skitsen solgt på auktion over tegninger og malerier tilhørende billedhuggeren Jacob Verbeeckt, lot 9: "Le Grand Duc et la Grande Duchesse, Esquisses sur bois par Rubens. Les tableaux en grand sont au Luxembourg". De blev solgt til kunsthandleren Pierre Francois Basan for 160 livres. Auktionskataloget findes kun som en håndskrevet kopi på Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie i Haag, af Lugt katalogiseret som, nr. 2095 (oplyst af Burton Fredericksen, direktør emeritus Getty Provenance Index, i brev dateret 20. august 2010) - 1774, 17. febr.: skitsen solgt på auktion Paillet i Paris, kat. p.30, nr. 80 for 230frcs. - 1780, 27. nov.: Le Bruns auktion, Paris (kkat. p.18, nr. 37) købt af Du Bois for 150frcs - 1782, 30. jan.: auktion Paillet kat. p.6, nr. 14 købt af de Roye - Spengler anfører endvidere: Cat. de Tableau de M. Sané, Peintre, Paris 1780, p.7, nr. 26, 300frcs. - I sit katalog angiver West, at det stammer fra Contis Samling. Dette dementeres af Spengler. -Prisen for billedet var 25 Louis d'Or (da West købte det?) Placeringshistorie: - Ophængt indtil 1955 - magasin - 1969, 11. sept.: Sølvgade - 1977, Til udstilling i Antwerpen (M500)
