Summary
[edit]DescriptionPeruvian Bag, 14th–early 16th century. Likely Chancay culture, South Coast.jpg |
Height 7-1/4 in. Museum has sparse information online: www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/316917 My recollection is that the stepped triangle figures are commonly thought to represent bird-heads. I love the "echo effect" on the bottom border. The ancient Peruvians were remarkably skillful weavers. Museum photo. I cropped and adjusted levels to my best guess of what it might have looked like when new(er). I wish the museum photographer had flipped that bird's nest of loose threads to the back! |
