Description
English: WIPO Director General Daren Tang (right) received on July 18, 2022, Peru's instrument of ratification of the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications and the instruments of accession to WIPO's classification treaties: Locarno Agreement, Nice Agreement, Strasbourg Agreement and Vienna Agreement from Julián Palacín, President of National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI).

The Geneva Act provides producers of quality products linked to origin, with faster and cheaper access to the international protection of their products' distinctive designations. It further develops the legal framework of the Lisbon System, which helps promote many globally marketed products such as pisco, cocoa, coffee and even ceramics.

As a member of the classification treaties, Peru will also join international efforts to improve the classifications of goods and services for the registration of industrial designs (Locarno Agreement), trademarks (Nice Agreement), patents (Strasbourg Agreement) and figurative elements of marks (Vienna Agreement) – helping inventors, brand owners and designers in their efforts to obtain protection for their work.
