Description
Deutsch: Dehnungstektonik erzeugte die beiden Grabenbrüche von Tithonium Chasma (links) und Ius Chasma (rechts). Durch den sich bei der Ausweitung der Kruste nach Norden (links) bzw. Süden öffnenden Raum sackten Krustenblöcke in der Hochebene Sinai Planum ein. Die ursprüngliche Oberfläche der Hochebene ist in der Bildmitte zu sehen. Geradlinig darauf verlaufende Vertiefungen zeigen an, dass der tektonische Stress, unter der die Region stand, auch in der noch fast intakten Hochebene seine Spuren hinterlassen hat.
