Summary
[edit]DescriptionPerennial Cornflower (Centaurea montana) - geograph.org.uk - 942617.jpg |
English: Perennial Cornflower (Centaurea montana) At this spot on the cycle route, a footpath branches off to the west. At the junction, a patch of Perennial Cornflower can be seen in flower in early summer. The species is not native to Britain, but attractive flowering patches will often be found from year to year in places where it has established itself in the wild; it is "widely naturalised along roadsides and in waste places. Curiously, these are often a long distance from habitation, despite the fact that the plant rarely produces fertile seed in this country" [Richard Mabey, "Flora Britannica"]. |
