Description

Murray Baker Bridge and the Illinois River from the Savings Tower, a 20-story building which was the tallest building in Peoria in 1974. Security Savings & Loan and the Caterpillar Administration Building are in the foreground.

Murray Baker (1872-1964) was vice president of Holt Manufacturing Co., the larger of the two companies that merged in 1925 to form Caterpillar Tractor Co. (now Caterpillar Inc.). He was credited with the decision to move Holt from California to East Peoria in 1909.

The 5 lane street is the 100 block (middle of photo) and 200 block (lower foreground) of Hamilton Boulevard.
