This Pollit & Wigzell horizontal tandem compound engine was originally supplied to London to drive machinery for preparing the feed of horses for omnibuses. It later went to Krumlin Mills, Barkisland, West Yorkshire where I saw it in about 1977. It was on display here for several years then went to a private collector in Ascot (where I saw it dismantled) and is now in the hands of another collector somewhere near Inverness (I believe). The location is correct to the best of my ability but it is a long time ago. The museum was actually in the former Castlegate Foundry and also had a Robey undertype and a Harker test engine in addition to road steam vehicles. I can't find any other pictures of the museum on the web and this is probably a rare photograph in terms of being publicly viewable." Photo by Chris Allen, 1983.
