ere provided the Veterans, and to present each Scoutwith an appropriate badge, to become his after his tour ofduty and commemorative thereof, Scout Commissioner Porterand his subordinate officers to be directly in command, in turnsubject to the orders of the Army Officers in charge of the GreatCamp. Under such Agreement, Commissioner Porter andhis StafiC so selected and brought to Gettysburg such bodyof Boy Scouts, some 385 all told, in Troops of twenty-four,each under a Scoutmaster, and the services they renderedwere of inestimable value. Under the noon days scorchingsun, through drenching rain, here, there, everywhere, anyhour, day and night, until their officers actually forced themto desist for necessary rest, this splendid body of intelligentyoung gentlemen, in their neat service uniforms, trained, dis-ciplained, trustworthy, courteous, so aided and assisted thisCommission and the Army Officers in our duties as hosts ofthe occasion, that they added new laurels to this general Boy

Sharing in. like manner in this service and inthe record made and the honors won and in the gratitude andappreciation due them were, in addition, some seventy-five BoyScouts from Washington, D. C.; Burlington, N, J.; Frederickand Hagerstown, Maryland, under Scout Commissioner Mar-tin, of Washington, D. C, they accompanying the National RedCross Hospital Organization on duty at Gettysburg duringthe Reunion.
