English: Penhurst Church Nr Battle East Sussex. Penhurst (Head of the Wood) was the Anglo-Saxon name given to this part of the wild forest land of the Weald of Sussex a thousand years ago. The Church dedicated to St Michael the Archangel dating from about 1340 is built of Wealdon sandstone.It stands on a eminence which falls gently to the south of Ashburn brook with Ashburnham Place beyond. |
