| Description |
English: Pembrey Harbour pierhead Pembrey Harbour was built in 1819 to handle increasing traffic in coal from local mines. It proved not to be large enough to cope with the volume of coal and it also suffered severe siltation problems. It was finally abandoned in 1878. The walls of the western breakwater have been skilfully restored and the pierhead is now classified as an Ancient Monument of National Importance by Cadw, the historic environment service of the Welsh Assembly Government. |
