Description

O pelourinho de Setúbal é constituído por uma coluna coríntia de mármore branco com veios escuros, proveniente de escavações levadas a cabo em Troia.

O plinto é de forma clássica, com capitel também coríntio, rematado por uma pirâmide quadrangular.

Apresenta um espigão de ferro a cuja parte inferior se prendem peças metálicas semelhando esferas golpeadas.

Inscrições em cada uma das quatro faces do pedestal contam a história da construção deste símbolo, concluída em 1774.

Substituiu o primitivo Pelourinho da Vila, o qual se erguia no antigo Largo da Ribeira Velha e que entretanto fora derrubado.

Mais se lê que o encomendador foi o Marquês de Pombal, tendo a despesa sido suportada pela Câmara da então vila de Setúbal. <a href="https://www.mun-setubal.pt/pelourinho/" rel="noreferrer nofollow">www.mun-setubal.pt/pelourinho/</a>
