Summary
[edit]DescriptionPellicci memorial, St Patrick's Cemetery, Leytonstone, E11.jpg |
English: Guiseppe Priamo Pellicci died December 1931 (in Bethnal Green) aged 41. Elide (Elide Emma Caterina) Pellicci died 11 th November 1980. Elide Pellicci's initals are found on the elegant listed interior of the cafe. Interestingly, the address in 1931 was 297 Bethnal Green Road, whilst the current address is 322 ibid.
Of the family of the famous cafe in Bethnal Green Road, The son of the above who carried on the cafe business died at the end of 2008. An obituary from the www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/obituaries/article53208... gives 1928. The father would have only been born in 1890 in Italy, so it is unlikely the cafe would have been called Pellicci's in the early 1900s The 1911 census shows a different Guiseppe Pelliicci b 1876 and family in Hackney. Interestingly, in the 1901 census, whilst many Italians were involved in the Ice Cream business, I spotted a group working as Lead Miners in Cardiganshire. at Llanfihangel Y creuddyn. No Pelliccis seemed to have been in London in the 1901 census, but perhaps the names were mis-heard and entered under different spellings? I take it then that the E of the famous E.Pellicci cafe (see comment below by @sarflondondunc) was Elide, the original Mrs P. More info on this page which mentions that the son,Nevio, born 1927 , took over Mrs E Pellicci until his death in 2008. In the Times Obituary of Nevio, the figures don't quite add up - Nevio was 4 when his father died, which would mean he was born in 1927, not 1925 as stated. In fact, the birth is registered as Pellicie, in 1925, so he would have been 6.(tiny point) Ernesto S Pellicci m. Natalina M Farina 1914(2). |
