English: Relief of a Pelican at the outer wall of the building at the St. Laurensstraat 1-3 in Alkmaar. The building was a design by A.J. Kropholler for the insurancecompany Hooge Huys in 1930-1931. The sculpture was made by Joseph Mendes da Costa. A similar sculpture was made for the H.H. Martelaren van Gorcum (Amsterdam-oost) a few years earlier and for the O.L.
