English: Pelicans or bees (Pelecanidae) are a family of birds of the Pelicans. Together with anhingas, cormorants, blons, frigates and tropics, they form the order of Pelecaniformes. Pelicans live on every continent except Antarctica. They are large birds with large beaks with a sack. The smallest is a brown pelican (P. occidentalis), which can weigh only 2.75-5.5 kg, be only 106-137 cm long and have a wingspan of only 183-250 cm. The largest is considered to be a pan (P. crispus) which can be 15 kg heavy, 183 cm long, with a wingspan of up to 3.5 m. |
