Description

Пелагея Николаевна Толстая (урожденная Горчакова, 1762-1838) - жена И.А. Толстого. Бабушка Льва Толстого

Род князей Горчаковых, восходящий к Рюрику, прославился в XVIII и особенно в XIX веке военачальниками, из которых один, троюродный брат Пелагеи Николаевны Алексей Иванович Горчаков, был военным министром, а другой - Андрей Иванович - боевым генералом.

Пелагея Николаевна - дочь кн. Николая Ивановича Горчакова - «была недалекая, малообразованная - она, как все тогда, знала по-французски лучше, чем по-русски (и этим ограничивалось ее образование), и очень избалованная - сначала отцом, потом мужем, а потом... сыном - женщина. Кроме того, как дочь старшего в роде, она пользовалась большим уважением всех Горчаковых...» (Толстой Л.Н. т. 34, с. 359).
