Description
Réalisé par Courbet lors de son séjour à Montpellier en 1854, La Rencontre incarne le pacte scellant l'amitié du mécène Alfred Bruyas (au centre du tableau) et de l'artiste. Révélé au public lors de l'Exposition Universelle de 1855, le tableau devient immensément célèbre sous le titre de Bonjour, monsieur Courbet.
